Directly from ZendCon 2013 (October 7 - 10, 2013 -- Santa Clara, CA) the Zend Technpologies and PHP on IBM i expert John Valance is coming to TUG for an all-day PHP & IBM i workshop.

Taking place at the at the Seneca College on the York University Campus

During the day, John will help students in building an inquiry application from scratch.
Similar to a subfile, the class would build all the components piece by piece, and at the end of the day have a working application, including formatting the data in an HTML table, with search filters, pagination (to scroll through a large file), and a CSV download option.

CSS Styling would also be applied to make it look beautiful.

Will also be covered:

• PHP and DB2 processing with SQL,
• HTML including tables and form inputs,
• Basic CSS
• Application architecture,
• ... and maybe some additional items.

The day will be very much hands-on, but John will do brief explanations of each step before moving forward.

Students are asked, if possible, to bring their laptops with Zend Studio already installed (we can provide instructions).
John will explain connecting to the IFS, but John doesn't want to spend time with installations during the day.

John Valance is an independent technical consultant who specializes in database and web application development on IBM i. He is also a trainer for Zend Technologies.

John has been developing applications on IBM midrange systems since the 1980s and web applications since 2000 and is well-versed in a number of languages and technologies.

He is a frequent presenter at IBM user groups.

John grew up in New York City and currently lives in northern Vermont.
