Phil Bennett attended Waterloo University in the co-op programme where he majored in math. He joined IBM in the Kitchener branch in May 1979. He initially was with the National Customer Support department where he provided MAPICS support and then System/38 support. For several years, Phil was an AS/400 Brand Manager. This was a demanding position in which he was responsible for all AS/400 software announcements for Canada and the Caribbean. He worked closely with Rochester to prepare announcement information, and to educate the marketing representatives, business partners, and customers regarding the announcements.
Phil made a tremendous contribution to the success of the AS/400 in Canada. Phil in recent years joined the Tech Line support team, which provided pre-sales technical support for the IBM sales force and business partners. In 1998, Phil was promoted to Manager of the Tech Line, technical solutions team.
Phil died suddenly at the age of forty-four on the morning of April 28, 1999.
