TEC 2010 Preview

As you may know, we’re currently gearing up for our annual Technical Education Conference and Vendor Showcase. This is the annual Canadian technical conference for IBM Power Systems Users. The theme this year is "TEC 2010 — The Odyssey Continues". The conference will include lectures and hands-on sessions on April 27 & 28, 2010 at York University (Seneca@ York and Schulich School of Business), plus full-day open labs on April 29 at The IBM Toronto Software Lab in Markham. We are targeting about 400 participants.

Our new venue, Seneca@York is an excellent and modern facility for us and it provides a number of key advantages vs. hosting the event at a hotel. The biggest advantage is to leverage and use the multiple (and large) lab environments they have, which are configured with access to the Internet as well as multiple IBM-provided systems. Also, the facility is extremely scalable, so we can be very creative in designing our tracks and handling different levels of attendance. The Schulich School of Business is right next door and we have made arrangements to host their private dining room for executive meetings and special interests.

We typically feature about 7 tracks of technical sessions ranging from IBM Systems, Rational Developer Tools, SQL and DB2, RPG Programmer sessions, AIX Operations Sessions, WebSphere and Open Source/Linux. The TEC 2010 Keynote will be Larry Augustin, CEO of SugarCRM and founder of VA Linux.

We have started an initiative to mine our community database, interview our constituents and develop more comprehensive market intelligence. We want to know more about the organization, IT strategies, and needs of our community members. Don't be surprised to get a call from one of our membership volunteers to get your input on ideas for the conference.

Pricing will be the same as last year, but with a more attractive Early-bird Discount.

Stay tuned to TUG Buzz! for more information...
