Network Terminator 1

·         provides physical and electrical termination functions

·         provides interface between twisted pair wires (used by the telephone company for BRI) and eight-wire cables (used by the ISDN equipment)

Network Terminator 2

·         handles switching and traffic concentration functionality (usually through PBXs - Public Branch Exchanges) for PRI connections

TE

Terminal Equipment

·         end user device for both non-ISDN and ISDN-ready CPE (Customer Provided Equipment)

TE1

Terminal Equipment 1

·         CPE which supports the standard ISDN interface directly (CPE does NOT require a terminal adapter)
