    Mike PavlakFeatured TEC 2017 speaker: Mike Pavlak

    Mike Pavlak has been working with IBM midrange solutions since 1992 and IBM Mainframes before that.

    After years of developing applications using RPG, CL and PHP he managed IT development and IT for power protection manufacturer Tripp Lite.

    Mike joined Zend Technologies as a Solutions Consultant working with the IBM sales team in 2008 and enjoys helping IBM i customers explore PHP as a state of the art solution for application modernization.

    In addition to several roles as a volunteer with COMMON the premier IBM midrange user group, Mike also teaches PHP classes part time at Moraine Valley Community College in Suburban Chicago.

    Mike lives in suburban Chicago with his wife, five kids, two dogs, two cats, a leopard spotted gecko, Russian tortoise, two rabbits, and a half dozen fish.

    TEC 2017 Hotel Reservations

    Planning to spend a night or two?

    TUG has reserved a block of rooms with the special group rate of $109.90 (based on double occupancy) at the Monte Carlo Inn from May 1st to May 3rd, under the name "TUG Group Block".     Continental Breakfast (6am - 10am), parking, local phone calls and hi speed internet access is included in the rate.  There is a restaurant and bar in the property as well as swimming pool and fitness center. Phones are also equipped with IPhone/IPod dock and all rooms have fridge and microwave.

    Please be aware aware that there are 2 locations in Markham. Make the reservation for “DOWNTOWN MARKHAM” (7255 Warden Avenue) and NOT the one at 8900 Woodbine.

    Reminders:

    1.  Mention the group name “TUG Group Block” when making reservations over the phone (905)752-2700 or toll free 1877-752-2788 (US and Canada)
    2. They will ask for Credit Card to secure the reservation, a pre-authorization of the room & tax plus incidentals will be taken upon check in and the exact amount will be charged upon check out.
    3. Make the reservation before cut-off date which is April 24th, 2017. Reservation received after this time will be based on availability.
    4. Indicate the room preference ( e.g., 2 beds).
    5. Check in time is 2:00 pm and check out time is 11:00 am
    6. 24 hour cancellation policy,  if for some reason the reservation needs to be cancelled, call the hotel 24 hours (before 4 pm) prior to the arrival date otherwise the credit card will be charge for 1 night as a No Show.

    TUG Board Election Update

    Nominations have closed for the 2017 TUG General Election.There are four candidates for three open positions. Three candidates will be elected for three-year terms, taking office on June 12th 2017 ("... at the next TUG Board meeting immediately following their election").

    The Online Poll will open Monday April 17, 2017

    The following candidates were announced at the March 29th MoM:

    (The John Forsyth Shirt Company Ltd)
    John Deluca
    (Atlas Van Lines Canada Ltd)
    Jamil Satti
    (Shaw Satellite Services Inc)

    The election will take place by electronic ballot during April and May. The poll will open soon and will close on Friday May 12th 2017 at 11:59 pm. Results will be announced at the May 24th 2017 Meeting of Members (AGM).

    All TUG members in good standing are eligible to vote (1 ballot per Individual member, 3 ballots per Corporate member). You may vote for one, two, or three candidates, but not four. Ballots with four votes will be disqualified. If you vote more than once, only the first ballot submitted will count.
