ABSTRACT:

TOPIC: "Using AI with RPG IV"
(Easier than you think)

AI, predominantly in neural network form, plays crucial roles across various sectors today. It's used for analytical reporting, fraud detection post-transaction, customer service chat routing, and powering search engines like Google and Bing. Despite some setbacks, such as McDonald's unsuccessful drive-through order AI, it's widely integrated into consumer products like photo and sound editing software, and web applications.;

This presentation addresses skepticism towards AI in RPG IV, including developing neural network solutions. It also covers alternatives like Java on Power Systems with Open-Source projects and JDK requirements. Attendees can experience AI firsthand through a web interface. RPG IV source code will be shared on GitHub (V7R4 and above), focusing on practical implementation rather than theoretical discussions.

Andrew McKeown has over three decades of experience in software development and engineering, with a background in consulting. He graduated from Seneca College in 1986, where he first encountered computing on systems like the Commodore Pet and VAX computers, learning languages such as Cobol, RPGII, PL/1, and Assembler.

His career began as a Computer Operator at Duracell Canada in 1989, working on IBM System 34, System 36, and System 38 before transitioning to RPGIII and later RPG IV on the AS400. He expanded his skills to include SQL and adopted Object-Oriented programming techniques, heavily influenced by "Who Knew You Could Do That with RPG IV."

Andrew has developed solutions integrating EDI with various ERPs, implemented e-pager integrations, and managed barcode labeling using Zebra printers. He also designed a data distribution system for a US financial company, incorporating rudimentary AI for file processing.

Currently, Andrew operates his own corporation, undertaking diverse software projects, including personal and professional ventures.
