SESSION 1:

β€œPythonic Containers for Module Management and IBM i"

Dependency management when operating multiple python projects can get crazy without a solid plan. In this session we will explore the world of Virtual Environments on IBM i and also the application of Jupyter Notebooks. These tools facilitate stable development and production of Python implementations.
  Learning Objectives:
      1) Explore some of the complexities of Python Module version management.
      2) Learn how to use Virtual Environments on IBM i.
      3) Live demo of virtual environments in action.

β€œWhat’s New with Open Source & IBM i"

Open source solutions have been on the IBM i platform for many years but recently the number of solutions deployed here has blossomed. Join Mike as he explores the latest news regarding packages and solution features available in IBM i Open Source Package Management and beyond.
  Learning Objectives:
      1) Review updates to the popular languages like PHP, Python and Node.js.
      2) Explore new(er) packages available via the ACS:
          Open Source Package Management.
      3) See examples of how the community is contributing to IBM i open source.

Mike Pavlak (Programmers.io)

Mike Pavlak has been working with IBM midrange solutions since 1992 and IBM Mainframes before that. After years of developing applications using RPG & CL he managed IT development and IT for power protection manufacturer Tripp Lite. Mike was instrumental in developing the adoption of PHP as the first open source language on IBM i and later joined Zend Technologies. Today, as a technology strategist with Programmers.io, Mike helps companies approach the challenges of modernization and open source technologies. In addition to several roles as a volunteer with COMMON Mike also teaches PHP & Python classes part time at Moraine Valley Community College in Suburban Chicago.
Mike lives in suburban Chicago constantly searching for the best microbreweries in the Midwest and elsewhere.
